Unforgettable Catfish Friday Blues & Soul Night as Chris Pitts, the Son of Memphis, Headlines

On March 22, 2024, the soothing rhythmic charm of blues and soul will reverberate across the UAPB Business Incubator located at 615 S. Main Street, downtown Pine Bluff, Arkansas. This musical enchantment follows the announcement that Chris Pitts, often hailed as the Son of Memphis, will headline the popular monthly series: Catfish Friday Blues & Soul Night.

A Host of Talent Synonymous with Blues & Soul

The talented Chris Pitts has long been associated with the heart-throbbing beats of soulful blues, a trait inherited from his family of established blues musicians. Brief exposure to his brother’s acoustic guitar at the tender age of five ignited Pitts’ relationship with music. An electric guitar on his thirteenth birthday sealed the deal.

Pitts’ youthful debut was at the well-known Memphis blues club, This Is It, alongside his uncle, Steve Nelson. The notable Wild Bill’s soon became a recurring performance spot for Chris, a venue where both his uncle and great-uncle, Clarence Nelson, had showcased their talents. Over time, Chris has graced the stage with recognized musicians such as Bobby Rush, Latimore, and Blind Mississippi Morris.

Chris Pitts in the Memphis Prime

In 2016, Pitts became part of Mississippi Bigfoot, performing as a guitarist and vocalist. But now, in the spotlight as Chris Pitts in the Memphis Prime, he leads the charge alongside his talented comrades, Tay, Russ, and Courtney.

Pitts and the team have succeeded in captivating audiences with a dynamic performance featuring a blend of favorites from legendary artists like Albert King, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Howlin’ Wolf, Charlie Pride, and Jimi Hendrix. The band continues to stun with their unique rendition of Old Soul music, delivering a fresh, funky vibe filled with intense passion and depth.

The Magic Unfolds at Catfish Friday Blues & Soul Night

The night will commence at the UAPB Business Incubator, with doors opening to the public at 6 PM and the musical journey beginning at 7 PM. The free event is sponsored by the Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission and co-sponsored by the UAPB Business Incubator and Delta Rhythm & Bayous Alliance.

This monthly series never fails to bring the community together and pay homage to the captivating power of blues and soul music. This March, under the musical leadership of none other than Chris Pitts, it promises to be a night of unforgettable rhythm and blues.
