A Summer Packed with Free Art Events

This summer, Memphis is hosting a series of highly anticipated free art events, kicking off this June and running through until the end of August. These events are presented by ARTSmemphis, a non-profit organization committed to supporting and bolstering the local arts scene. Since its establishment in 1963, ARTSmemphis has distributed over $94 million to local artists and arts organizations.

The organization also provides important resources such as financial guidance, organization advice, marketing support, and networking opportunities. This summer, they have curated an impressive array of events featuring free concerts, art exhibitions, stereo sessions, and more.

ARTSmemphis: A Snapshot

ARTSmemphis is dedicated to both enriching the Memphis arts scene and promoting local art events, exhibitions, fundraisers, and much more. The events scheduled for this summer serve as a testament to the organization’s continuous efforts in supporting and promoting the local art scene.

A Glimpse into the Summer Art Events

June Events

The summer calendar kicks off with ‘The Season of Carl: Drawings by Rose Marr’, which will be taking place at Church Health all through June. Some other noteworthy events include the CBU: 2024 Spring BFA Exhibition, Threading Legacies: A Tribute to Black Women Quilters in Memphis, TN – 2, and the bang-on Orion Free Concert Series. This series includes performances by acclaimed artists such as Kings & Associates, Perpetual Groove, Cedric Burnside, and many more. The month concludes with the Whet Thursday: Salsa on the Bluff event at the Metal Museum and the ‘Memphis 2024’ event at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens.

July Events

In July, visitors can look forward to the ‘Sowgand Sheikholeslami: Progression’ exhibition at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Phyllis R. Dixon at Novel: A Taste for More, and the WYXR Stereo Sessions #4: Robert Clayborne’s “Power To Overcome”. Another highlight of the month will undoubtedly be the July Family Day at Stax Museum of American Soul Music.

August Events

In August, the 2023 Wilson Fellowship exhibition at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens featuring works by Danny Broadway, Claire Hardy, Thad Lee, and John Ruskey will go live. Other standout events are the Sunset Jazz @ Court Square Concert Series 2024 performance by Soul Ingredient and the WYXR Stereo Session #5: Blackout’s “Dreamworld.”
