Home2 Suites Set to Open in Downtown Memphis

If you’ve been strolling around Downtown Memphis recently, you’ve likely noticed an exciting new construction project taking shape at the corner of Vance Avenue and Second Street. What’s popping up is a brand-new Home2 Suites by Hilton, adding to the growing list of accommodations in the bustling downtown area. The hotel is expected to officially open its doors in October 2024 and will feature 112 rooms for travelers visiting the city.

Developed by the Maryland-based Baywood Hotels, this hotel project has been in the works for several years. To delve back in time, discussions about a similar hotel began all the way back in 2016, initially considering a different brand, Homewood Suites. Fast forward to February 2020, when Nimesh Patel of Baywood Hotels filed a construction permit for what has evolved into this impressive $12 million project.

Fast forward to March 2022, when Vance Holdings LLC took a step further by filing a construction mortgage valued at over $15 million for the site. Initially, the groundwork—literally—didn’t kick off until the summer of 2022, so it’s great to see things finally coming together.

The entirety of the construction site spans 0.87 acres, combining three parcels of property—one of which is located at 139 Vance Ave.—and extends along Mulberry Street, coming up directly behind popular local spots like Slider Inn and the WKND Hang Suite.

Aside from the Home2 Suites, Baywood Hotels is also keeping busy with another exciting project: an AC Hotel in East Memphis at 6582 Poplar Ave. Here, the company is moving forward with construction costs projected to be around $10 million. A construction permit was filed in March for this five-story hotel, further showcasing Baywood’s dedication to enhancing hospitality options in the Memphis area.

As for the progress on the Home2 Suites, several construction permits have been pulled, with the latest being for electrical work, filed just last month. These ongoing developments reflect a strong push forward for the project, allowing it to meet its timeline for the grand opening later this year.

With more travelers exploring the vibrant culture, music, and food that Memphis has to offer, the addition of the Home2 Suites will provide a fresh and modern option for those looking to stay in the heart of it all. In a city known for its rich history and lively atmosphere, having a new hotel like this fits perfectly with the ongoing revitalization efforts in the downtown area.

For many folks familiar with Memphis, this is a promising sign of growth and progress—a chance to welcome visitors to the city while boosting the local economy. Plus, with new establishments popping up all around, this part of town is certainly evolving to meet the demands of modern travelers.

As we patiently wait for the hotel to open, it’ll be interesting to see how the Home2 Suites fits into the larger picture of downtown Memphis. It may also entice more dining and entertainment options to line the streets surrounding the area. With the vibrancy of downtown life and rich traditions that hold strong here, the timing of this new hotel couldn’t be more perfect.

If you’re a fan of checking out new accommodations or just love keeping up with local developments, this is certainly a project to keep an eye on as it progresses. With construction buzzing at the site, we can expect to see more updates come to light as October approaches.

For anyone planning a trip to Memphis soon or maybe even a staycation, keep your eyes peeled because the Home2 Suites by Hilton will soon be adding its flair to the varied landscape of downtown lodging options. With the Blues and BBQ culture just around the corner, it’ll be an experience worth sharing!
