Get Ready for a Safe and Spooky Halloween in Memphis!

Memphis, Tenn. — With Halloween just around the corner, excitement is in the air! Friday night marks the start of many celebrations, and families are ready to dive into the fun. But before your little goblins head out for their candy-filled adventures, it’s essential to keep safety in mind. Various local leaders are reminding parents to ensure their kiddos have a great time while staying safe.

Safety First: Tips for Trick-or-Treating

According to the Assistant Chief of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Derek Mills, there are some simple yet crucial steps to follow. “Make sure you know where your children are going. Make sure you accompany them, especially our younger children,” Mills suggests, adding that you should always keep an eye on the roads.

As the sun sets and darkness creeps in, keeping a lookout becomes even more important. “It’s going to be right at the crust of darkness, so when you are out there, areas of the county don’t always have street lights,” Mills warns. He also has some friendly advice for parents: “Make sure you wear something that you can be seen in and watch the cars on the road.” This is a great reminder to parents and kids alike as streets can get crowded on Halloween night.

A Spooktacular Alternative: Trunk or Treat

If you’re looking for a fun and safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating, there’s exciting news! The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a “Trunk or Treat” event this weekend. This festive gathering encourages families to come out for a night filled with candy, costumes, and community spirit. The event features both indoor and outdoor activities!

“We welcome anybody in the public to come out. We have our indoor facility, and outside we have plenty of candy,” Mills says. He’s especially excited to mention that thanks to a generous donation from Walmart, there is a truckload of candy just waiting to be shared. “Please come out and help us get rid of some of this!” he adds with enthusiasm.

Event Details

The Trunk or Treat is set for Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the substation in Arlington, which is located at 11670 Memphis-Arlington Road. It’s a fantastic way to kick off your Halloween weekend while ensuring your kids have a safe environment to celebrate in.

Halloween is all about making sweet memories, but with all the ghosts and ghouls out celebrating, it’s vital to keep safety top of mind. So grab those costumes, stock up on flashlights, and get ready for a frightfully good time in Memphis this Halloween. Whether you hit the streets or join the festivities at Trunk or Treat, let’s make it a safe, fun night for all!
