Two Arrested After Fatal Shooting in South Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Memphis Police Department has announced the arrest of two men in connection with a tragic shooting that took place earlier this year in South Memphis. The incident, which occurred on June 18, has raised many questions in the community and left residents searching for answers.

The Tragic Incident

On that fateful evening, authorities responded to reports of gunfire in the 1700 block of Castalia Street. It was there that they found an 18-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The young man was immediately rushed to Regional One Medical Center, but sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

While the 18-year-old lost his life, two others, aged 11 and 15, were also present during the shooting. Fortunately, they escaped without any injuries, but the emotional scars and trauma remain. The community has been shaken by this senseless act of violence, leaving many residents questioning the safety of their neighborhoods.

Arrests Made

Following an investigation that lasted several months, police identified a 19-year-old man named Edd Pickens as a significant suspect by June 27. Authorities believe that Pickens was driving a stolen vehicle during the shooting, when the fatal attack occurred.

According to police reports, Pickens recounted a dramatic tale, claiming that he and three others had visited a nearby store. After leaving the store, an argument erupted concerning an unpaid debt involving one of the individuals in his car. He stated that when he drove away, one of his companions urged him to turn back and confront the individuals they had just argued with.

Once back at the scene, witnesses say that the men in Pickens’ vehicle rolled down their windows and unleashed a hail of gunfire upon the three people, leading to the tragic outcome. Ultimately, it was reported that Pickens fled the scene after witnessing one of the boys collapse while trying to escape.

Mystery Man Caught

The investigation did not stop there, as police also identified Gabrien Rounds, another 19-year-old, as a suspect in the case. Rounds evaded capture until November 14, when officers finally apprehended him during a routine traffic stop.

Charges Filed

As the legal proceedings began, Pickens was charged with Facilitation of First-Degree Murder and Theft of Property valued between $2,500 and $10,000. He is currently being held on a bond of $150,000.

On the other hand, Rounds faces much more severe charges, including First-Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder, and two counts of Employing a Firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. At this time, no bond has been set for him.

Community Impact

Residents throughout South Memphis are left grappling with the aftermath of the shooting. Many are expressing deep concerns about safety and the ongoing issue of youth violence in the area. Community leaders have emphasized the importance of coming together to create a safer environment for everyone, particularly the younger generation.

As the legal processes unfold, many hope for justice and a renewed focus on addressing the root causes of gun violence in their neighborhoods. The tragic loss of a young life has resonated through the community, prompting calls for change and increased awareness.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops and as the community continues to seek the answers it so desperately needs.
