Weekend Violence in Hickory Hill
Now, let’s talk about a serious incident that unfolded in the Hickory Hill neighborhood. In the early hours of Sunday morning, just after the clock struck 2:00 AM, Memphis Police received a call about a gun violation. When they arrived at Raintree Drive, they found a woman who had done what many of us would—trying to break up an argument between family members.
Sadly, her good intentions quickly turned problematic. According to reports, one of the men involved in the argument whipped out a gun and pointed it right at her, telling her to stay out of “family business” before firing a few shots into the ground. Luckily, another witness who was nearby saw what happened and ran inside their home just in time. Moments later, that same witness heard two gunshots echoing from the backyard. Sounds terrifying, doesn’t it?
Thanks to swift police action, the suspects were apprehended on the scene. During a search, officers discovered a black Sauer handgun tucked away in the waistband of one of the suspects. Turns out, the gun had been reported stolen from Southaven, adding another layer of trouble to this dramatic encounter. Both suspects were taken into custody for questioning and later transported to 201 Poplar.

Tragically, a man was killed in a shooting later on Sunday afternoon in the Douglass neighborhood. Meanwhile, officers are on the lookout for five men who allegedly broke into a home in Hickory Hill earlier this month. On a more positive note, there were heroes on the scene as Shelby County deputies managed to rescue a bedridden woman from a house fire near Millington early on Sunday. Talk about a bit of good news to brighten up a dark situation!
