18-Year-Old Amazon Employee Arrested for Allegedly Stealing 36 Apple Watches

18-Year-Old Amazon Employee Apprehended for Allegedly Stealing 36 Apple Watches

Discovery of The Theft

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis police has placed an Amazon employee under arrest following suspicions of theft from the company’s facility situated at 3292 Holmes Road. Horatio Key, age 18, faces charges over the alleged theft of property valued between $10,000 and $60,000. The suspect reportedly had help in the act from three accomplices, identified as Tourell Lawson, Andrico Woods, and Lendon Nolen.

It all began on November 9, 2023, when Amazon Loss Prevention received a tip regarding an unusual location that housed several empty Apple Watch containers. Upon a detailed check, it was found that 36 Apple watches were mysteriously missing from the facility.

Investigation and Arrest

Amazon’s security surveillance cameras recorded the suspects, including Key, unpacking the Apple watches. This footage played a crucial role in the subsequent identification and arrest of the culprits. On February 16, 2024, investigators pinpointed Key as the main suspect responsible for orchestrating the theft.

Through collaborative investigations between Amazon and the Memphis police, the value of the stolen watches was estimated to be around $14,364. The local law enforcement authorities are now holding Key accountable for his actions, while the involvement of the other suspects in the crime continues to be scrutinized by the investigators.

Suspect Faces Legal Proceedings

As an adult legally responsible for his actions, Key is now awaiting trial where he might face severe consequences if found guilty of the charges. Meanwhile, the fate of the other suspects is still under deliberation by the legal authorities. Amazon is working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure proper closure of the case and to prevent such incidents in the future.

The incident has raised eyebrows regarding the security protocols and workforce supervision at Amazon’s facilities. Being a global e-commerce giant, Amazon is now facing public scrutiny over how it plans to enhance its internal examination processes, and how it intends to prevent such incidents from repeating in the future.
