Hey there, Memphis! As we wind down from another sunny day, let’s take a moment to catch up on some important happenings around town.
Today, we enjoyed a day that was generally sunny with just a few afternoon clouds drifting by – perfect for getting outdoors and soaking up some sunshine! The high reached around 89°F, with gentle northeast winds blowing at about 5 to 10 mph.
But before you rush out for an evening stroll, keep in mind that showers and storms are on the way! The low is expected to drop to around 67°F, and there’s a 50% chance of rain tonight. So, grab an umbrella just in case! Winds will be coming in from the east-northeast at the same 5 to 10 mph range.
According to police reports, video footage shows one thief climbing through the sunroof of a white 2013 Nissan Maxima after smashing it. While this was going down, another suspect stood guard, brandishing a gun at an apartment nearby. It’s a scene that no one wants to witness!
After they stole the Maxima, the pair made off together. Interestingly, police also reported that a third suspect was involved, as the two culprits arrived in a blue Dodge Charger before stealing the Maxima. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this car theft to step forward and call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH. Every little bit helps!
In other news that’s affecting the region, Hurricane Francine is expected to make landfall later this evening. This storm could bring heavy rain, flooding, and even potential tornado threats, so it’s crucial to stay alert and safe! The local power company, Entergy, is actively preparing to ensure that the lights stay on for nearly 460,000 customers in the area. They have also shared some helpful tips to keep everyone safe during the storm.
Meanwhile, Memphis has also been grappling with some serious issues. A shooting in Frayser has left one man severely injured, and four people have been detained by police in connection with this incident. Safety is still a huge concern for the community as we navigate these troubled waters.
On a lighter note, we’ve got some community support efforts underway! A founder from a local dance studio is rallying the community to help a 2-year-old survivor of a recent tragic crash. This wonderful initiative is bringing people together, showcasing our Memphis spirit of kindness and support.
In health news, the Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed the first case of measles in the state since 2019. This highlights the ongoing need for vaccinations and public health awareness, reminding us how important it is to stay informed and healthy.
As you enjoy the evening in Memphis, stay safe, keep an eye on the weather, and let’s look out for one another! Remember that your local police department and community leaders are here to help make our neighborhood a better place for everyone. Until next time, take care!
