Memphis Celebrates a Top Honor for Central Station Hotel

This week, the vibrant city of Memphis has something extra to celebrate! Central Station Memphis has snagged a coveted spot as the second-best hotel in the South, according to the latest Readers’ Choice Awards from Condé Nast Traveler. This award is no small feat and speaks volumes about the outstanding service and unique experience that guests have come to expect at this delightful hotel.

What Makes Central Station So Special?

Located at 545 S. Main St., Central Station boasts a remarkable score of 98.74. Hotel director of sales and marketing, Amy Gray, expressed her excitement, stating, “This honor reflects the heart and soul our team pours into every single guest’s experience. We’re overjoyed to share this achievement with our incredible staff and welcome new and returning visitors to our hotel.” Her words truly capture the spirit of joy that this accolade brings.

A Look at the Competition

Central Station is not alone in representing Tennessee on the list of top hotels. The Tennessean in Knoxville and the Harpeth Franklin Downtown in Franklin also made the cut, coming in at 21 and 22, respectively. It’s a proud moment for the whole state! With Central Station taking the lead, it certainly shines a spotlight on the appeal of Memphis as a travel destination.

Exciting Changes on the Horizon

What’s even more exciting is that this recognition comes during a transformative time for Central Station. Earlier this summer, guests were informed that the hotel’s flagship restaurant, Bishop, would be temporarily closing until this fall, with plans for a fresh new restaurant concept taking its place. Change is in the air, offering both locals and visitors something new to taste and experience!

Additionally, the hotel’s development doesn’t stop there. Construction for the sweet addition of Old Soul Floral Co., a charming flower shop, is underway right next door to Zio Matto Gelato, which opened earlier this year. It seems that Central Station is determined to create a lively community atmosphere. The lounge and bar, Eight & Sand, remains open, inviting guests to relax and enjoy their time in a friendly environment.

A Rich History

Central Station isn’t just a pretty face, either. This historic gem has a story that dates back to the early 20th century, originally opening in 1914 as Grand Central Memphis. It later changed its name to Memphis Central Station in 1944 and served as a bustling passenger rail terminal. Today, it remains part of Amtrak’s route, making it a vital hub of travel in the region.

Since undergoing renovations in 2015 by the Henry Turley Co. along with Archie Willis, the hotel has seamlessly blended boutique style with historic charm. Situated in the colorful South Main Street Historic District, Central Station is not only a place to stay but a wonderful way to experience the rich history of Memphis.

Ready for a Visit?

The buzz around Central Station is undeniable. Whether you’re a local wanting a weekend getaway or a traveler checking out the best that Memphis has to offer, this top-rated hotel is sure to impress. Their commitment to guest satisfaction, paired with exciting new culinary experiences on the way, makes it a fantastic time to plan your next visit!

Memphis is alive with possibilities, and Central Station is leading the charge. Cheers to a bright future and many more awards to come!
