The inviting interior of Dory, set to bring a fresh dining experience to Memphis.
Memphis food lovers have something to look forward to as David and Amanda Krog prepare to launch their new restaurant, Dory, this fall. Located at 716 W. Brookhaven Circle, the eatery will feature an open kitchen concept and a menu inspired by contemporary Southern cuisine with French techniques. The Krogs, who’ve spent nearly six years dreaming about this venture, aim to create an upscale yet approachable dining experience that showcases local art and seasonal ingredients while accommodating 70 to 80 guests. Mark your calendars for fall 2023!
Get ready, Memphis! There’s a fresh dining destination on the horizon, as David and Amanda Krog have just signed the lease for their brand new restaurant named Dory, set to open its doors this fall. Located at 716 W. Brookhaven Circle, this charming restaurant will breathe new life into a two-story building that once served as a medical office. Construction is gearing up to begin in the next couple of weeks, so the countdown to deliciousness has officially started.
This venture marks a significant milestone for the Krogs, who have been dreaming about opening their own restaurant for nearly six years. David comes with a wealth of experience and is well-known in the Memphis restaurant scene, having previously served as executive chef at Interim until January 2018, and also working at Erling Jensen. His culinary expertise will undoubtedly shine in this exciting new project.
Dory is going to flaunt an open kitchen concept, allowing diners to enjoy the sights and sounds of culinary magic happening right before their eyes. For those seeking an exclusive experience, the restaurant will feature four counter seats at the kitchen pass for a special tasting menu served on Thursday nights. This menu will feature multiple courses, and it’s sure to become the hottest ticket in town!
The Krogs envision Dory as an upscale neighborhood restaurant that offers a welcoming atmosphere without the fuss of white tablecloths. The idea here is to create an approachable dining experience, combining polished service with a casual vibe that encourages interaction between servers and guests. No need to stress over formal dining here; the focus is on enjoying great food in a relaxed setting.
The menu at Dory will spotlight contemporary Southern cuisine with a touch of French technique. The Krogs have made it a priority to source their ingredients thoughtfully, establishing strong ties with first- and second-generation farmers. This means you can expect top-notch produce and meats while dining at Dory. After hosting a popular pop-up dinner series called “Taste of Gallery” for the past year, they’ve gathered plenty of valuable feedback regarding dishes that may make an appearance on their permanent menu.
Dory promises to elevate the dining experience by showcasing local art, featuring a different artist each season. This dedication to community extends beyond the food and into the atmosphere. The Krogs are also collaborating with CityWood, a local custom woodwork company, for their unique table designs. Meanwhile, Iron & Design, also based in Memphis, will be crafting the table bases and partitions, so nothing at Dory will be lackluster.
Spanning approximately 3,700 square feet, Dory will comfortably seat between 70 and 80 guests. Plus, there’s a private dining room on the upper floor, perfect for accommodating up to 25 guests for special events or overflow seating. Both lunch and dinner service will be available, which means ample opportunities to experience their unique offerings.
David will take the helm in the kitchen, drawing upon his rich culinary history that began at a young age living with his grandmother Dory. Amanda will manage the dining room, ensuring that each guest feels right at home. The restaurant is named in honor of both David’s beloved grandmother and their daughter, Dory – a beautiful tribute that adds a personal touch to this exciting adventure.
So, mark your calendars for fall 2023! Dory is set to spice things up in Memphis’ culinary scene, offering a unique blend of Southern flavors and French techniques that will leave you craving more. Be sure to keep an eye out for their opening and prepare to savor the mouthwatering dishes that await!
