Exciting changes are in store for Downtown Memphis, as recent plans for a new hotel development project come to light. The proposal outlines the construction of a 15-story building dubbed the “Blues Note Hotel.’’ The project is a collaboration between Blues Note Hotel Development LLC and Memphis-based Bailey Company Real Estate Services.
With its proposed site at 0 Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and 0 Fourth Street, the Blues Note Hotel is set to bring considerable transformation to the local landscape. The development group, Blues Note Hotel Development LLC, acquired two parcels of this land, totaling 2.2 acres, for a reported $3 million in August 2022. The new hotel will be conveniently situated catty-cornered from FedExForum, a premium venue known for hosting quality sporting and entertainment events, and directly opposite the leafy vistas of Robert R. Church Park.
As the permit application outlines, the planned site is currently an overflow parking lot. However, developers envision a dynamic mixed-use development boasting 191 hotel rooms, 65 apartments, and 360 parking spaces- offering a central hub for downtown dwellers and visitors alike.
The blueprints for the development are nothing short of impressive. The project will feature three buildings – the main Blues Note Hotel structure, luxury condominiums, and a boutique hotel planned for construction in the future.
With the help of Lakeland-based A2H Inc., the 65-unit condominium and apartment will rise nine stories above the ground, creating panoramic views for its residents. In terms of amenities, the hotel promises to deliver various retail spaces, excellent restaurants, and an attention-grabbing guitar-shaped pool on its rooftop.
The team behind Blues Note LLC is not new to the realm of real estate development. Comprising Nash Hassen, Bill McCrary, Reginald Fentress, and Kennieth Richardson, the group previously proposed a different project in 2021, which included a 100-room hotel and 40 units of residential buildings along 463 N. Front St. in the Pinch District. However, this new endeavor, with its combination of commercial and residential facilities near the FedExForum, seems to be their most ambitious project to date.
It’s safe to say that the Blues Note Hotel aims to be much more than a basic accommodation facility. It seeks to be a community-binding institution, introducing a new standard of living and offering an exciting, urban lifestyle in the heart of Downtown Memphis.
This new development brings with it the hope and promise of revitalization, potentially prompting further growth and reinvestment in the area. Once complete, the Blues Note Hotel and its accompanying buildings will not only provide comprehensive accommodations but will also likely add value to the identity of Downtown Memphis, enhancing its appeal to both domestic and international visitors.
More details about the project will be forthcoming as it progresses, but for now, it’s safe to say that the new Blues Note Hotel is an exciting step forward for Downtown Memphis.
