Family Dollar Seeking to Fill Hundreds of Positions at West Memphis Distribution Center
Revitalizing the West Memphis Community
In West Memphis, Arkansas, the local job scene is about to experience a significant boost. The Family Dollar Distribution Center based in the area is set to reopen after it was shut down in 2022 by the FDA due to a rat infestation. The company is now looking to fill hundreds of job vacancies at the freshly renovated and modernized facility.
A Grand Hiring Event
The hiring event on Wednesday was conducted by the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services to identify potential employees for the distribution center. Participants in the job fair were pleased to learn about the starting wage, which stands at a competitive rate of $20 per hour.
Representatives from Family Dollar announced that 600 positions were currently vacant. During the job fair, more than 100 people were interviewed, with many eager job seekers lining up outside the Arkansas Workforce Center.
Boosting Local Employment
Officials acknowledged that the large numbers of attendees demonstrated the local community’s desperate need for employment opportunities. “They are supposed to open in August. After this, the first 100 people, they are supposed to host another job fair in June or July,” said Dominique Euell, area operations chief with Arkansas Workforce Services.
Although the date of the next job fair has not been confirmed, efforts are underway to expedite the reopening process and ensure job vacancies are filled in a timely manner.
The Road to Reopening
In preparation for the reopening, the warehouse in West Memphis has undergone extensive cleaning, renovations, and modernizing upgrades. It is expected to be ready to resume operations by August.
For those unable to attend the previous job fair, or who wish to explore new jobs in the coming months, all eyes are on the announcement of the next hiring event.
