Memphis is buzzing with news that High Tee, the indoor country club that took the city by storm, is making a move! After just six months in Germantown, this unique hotspot is set to relocate to East Memphis this coming January. Owner Ethan Lee is steering the ship through these changes, and he’s got a lot to share about this thrilling transition!
High Tee opened its doors back in mid-July at The Standard in Germantown, and it quickly became a favorite hangout for locals. Now, you may wonder why after such a short time, Ethan would choose to pack up and go elsewhere. The answer lies in some ongoing construction and development around their current location. Ethan notes, “We knew it was a temporary thing, but we assumed it was going to be at least a year. That’s not the way things worked out. But no hurt feelings there.”
High Tee’s new home will be the Laurelwood Shopping Center, and Ethan is looking forward to what the future holds. So, how did this location come to be? It all started when Cory Prewitt, the president of Laurelwood, strolled into High Tee one day. “This gentleman walks into my store, and it’s Cory Prewitt, and he’s the nicest guy ever,” Ethan recalls, clearly thrilled. Cory was so excited about the concept of High Tee that he simply insisted, “We have to have this at Laurelwood!” Ethan is all about positivity and shared that there wasn’t one good reason not to make the move.
Now, let’s talk amenities! The new High Tee space will feature pool tables and a delightful food and cocktail menu curated by Restaurant Iris, thanks to a partnership formed by Prewitt. “Kelly [English, the owner of Restaurant Iris] seemed crazy excited about it,” Ethan said, adding that partnering with a high-end restaurant really makes sense for the club. However, it’s worth mentioning that the new location will be roughly half the size of the current one, which means no more pickleball court. But no worries! There’s still plenty to keep members entertained!
High Tee will say goodbye to its Germantown location the week of Christmas. With Memphis’ colder weather rolling in, Ethan shared that they are currently in their busy season, providing the perfect send-off for the club. The new doors at Laurelwood are set to open by mid-January, and Ethan has aspirations of hosting a special event for members on January 1st!
High Tee’s motto, “Training golf at the highest level and offering a unique country club experience,” has become a reality, according to Lee. But he also reflected on how the business has morphed into something more—it’s become a true social club. “There’s a steady group of members who hang out on Tuesdays. It’s not really the golf that makes them come in—the golf is the byproduct,” Ethan shared with a spark in his voice. Friends are being made across various age groups, all sparked by a mutual love for the club. Members gather, enjoy pizza, and play golf, creating connections in a way that’s been truly heartwarming to witness!
The excitement for High Tee’s move is palpable, and there’s no doubt that this indoor country club will continue to thrive in its new location. Memphians, keep your eyes peeled for the opening of High Tee at Laurelwood this January, and get ready to enjoy all the new features it promises to bring. As for Ethan, he’s just getting started on this amazing journey that’s woven together golf, socializing, and so much more!
