Horn Lake is buzzing with excitement as the beloved Elf on the Shelf tradition returns for another enchanting year at the M.R. Dye Public Library. This festive event has already kicked-off and children are eagerly on the hunt for the sneaky elves, “Elfie” and “Holly.”
After a brief trip to the North Pole, where they surely sipped hot cocoa with Santa, Elfie and Holly have made their magical return to the library for the third year running! These little helpers are here to make their lists, check them twice, and report back to Santa about who’s been naughty or nice. And just like every year before, kids are invited to scour the library in search of the hidden elves during their visits.
What’s the reward for spotting these mischievous little guys? A sweet treat, of course! When a lucky finder spots their favourite elf, they earn a delightful piece of individually wrapped hard candy. Carson Culver, the library’s Children’s Youth Supervisor, shared, “It’s a lot of fun for us and the children who stop by, not only from Horn Lake, but other communities as well. The kids look high and low for them and usually succeed!”
It’s not just about the candy; it’s about making lasting memories and sharing the joy of the holiday season together! Kids and families are having a blast roaming the library stacks, hunting for their festive friends!
According to Culver, finding the elves isn’t as easy as you might think. “Elfie is the larger of the two that is easier for the littler children to find, while Holly is smaller and is more difficult to find,” she explained. They are known for hiding in the most unexpected locations, making the search even more exciting!
Over the years, Holly has hidden in various quirky spots. From the delicate ropes they used to create a tightrope act to cozying up with a colorful collection of puppets, there’s no telling where you’ll find her next. Culver reminisced with a smile, “One time, Holly was on top of a big globe, showing that Santa made it around the world just in time!”
And guess what? “Elfie” is equally crafty! He’s been spotted lounging on the actual bookshelves and even sneaking into the library’s full-sized sleigh used for the Toys for Tots collection! Culver added, “They’re very active. They can be lounging or doing jumping jacks, it really depends on their holiday mood!”
The fun doesn’t stop there! The library has even more holiday magic planned. On December 12, there will be a Gingerbread House making event. Kids will receive everything they need to create and decorate their own delightful houses. Adding to the festivities, the Horn Lake Intermediate School choir will be singing cheerful Christmas tunes. It sounds like it’s going to be a delightful evening filled with creativity and joy!
The ongoing search for the elves continues through December 23 during regular library hours. Don’t miss your chance to embark on this fun-filled adventure! Ample opportunities lie ahead for kids of all ages to discover Elfie and Holly, and of course, win a tasty prize in the process!
So, gather your little ones, head down to the M.R. Dye Public Library, and dive into the holiday spirit with this beloved tradition. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the next lucky finder of Elfie or Holly. Happy hunting!
