Sponsor Our ArticlesMEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s a story that sounds like it could be a plot twist in a heist movie, but it’s all too real. A former FedEx employee has recently been accused of stealing over $12,000 worth of glittering jewelry from a package she was responsible for at the Memphis hub. This isn’t just petty theft; it’s a serious case that has caught the attention of both law enforcement and the public.
The woman at the center of this scandal, Hannah Davis, 26, was taken into custody last Thursday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. The police report details how Davis allegedly managed to sell several gold Figaro necklaces and a rather unique diamond pendant from Quantum Jewelers to Irwin Jewelers located right here in Memphis. Curious as to how she managed this? Well, it all started when she sold the items on April 26.
After the sale, a diligent employee from Irwin Jewelers noticed something unusual. They reached out to Quantum Jewelers and were told that both the pendant and the other jewelry items were indeed the property of Quantum and were meant to be shipped to them via FedEx. Yikes!
Once Quantum alerted the authorities, FedEx wasted no time and initiated an internal investigation. During this probe, they reviewed security footage and confirmed that Davis was seen handling the package in question when it was scanned into the FedEx World Hub on Sprankle Avenue.
FedEx has made a statement regarding the incident, emphasizing that the safety and security of their customers’ shipments is a priority. They stated, “We have fully cooperated with law enforcement in its investigation.” The company has also confirmed that Davis is no longer employed by them, making it clear they don’t take such incidents lightly. Any questions about the case should now go directly to law enforcement.
The value of the jewelry that was swiped from FedEx is staggering, clocking in at $12,317.28 according to Quantum. Meanwhile, police have not disclosed how much Davis allegedly pocketed from the sale. Whether it was a quick buck or a life-changing amount, she’s now facing some serious legal troubles.
Davis was booked into the Shelby County Jail, and the charges are no joking matter. She is facing a charge for theft, specifically for stealing property valued between $10,000 and $60,000. The court sees this as a significant crime. Her bond has been set at $5,000, and she’s scheduled to reappear in court on December 16. So, we’ll have to wait and see what happens next!
This ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the importance of integrity in the workplace, especially in jobs that handle valuable items. As the investigation continues and the court date approaches, residents of Memphis can only hope that justice is swiftly served. If one thing’s for sure, this isn’t the kind of holly jolly story you’d expect during the holiday season!
