Memphis Prepares for Artistic Revolution as Mississippi River Museum Transforms into Baron Von Opperbean’s Adventure Playground

Memphis Set for Artistic Revolution with Baron Von Opperbean’s Adventure

In an exciting move for the artistic community in Memphis, the city prepares for a complete metamorphosis of the iconic Mississippi River Museum situated on Mud Island. The facility is slated to become the home of an alluring immersive adventure titled, “Baron Von Opperbean and the River of Time“.

A New Vision for Memphis

The brainchild of local artist and technologist, Christopher Reyes, the project plans to repurpose the 33,000-square-foot, 18-room facility, promising an unprecedented addition to the city. Phase one is set to kick-start by the year’s end, with subsequent phases gradually revealing additional realms, serving a continually evolving experience to its visitors.

“Mud Island is an iconic Memphis destination,” said the project’s spokesman, Marvin Stockwell. “We’re all fans of adaptive reuse, making this project remarkable as BVO will utilize an existing facility, aiding the revival of Mud Island.”

A Gift of Adventure and Play

In its essence, Baron Von Opperbean serves as an interactive playground welcoming individuals to run, jump, climb, crawl, and teleport to alternate universes.

A Community Investment with Substantial Impact

Eager to involve the local community, Reyes and his team have organized a funding campaign on Wefunder, a leading equity crowdfunding platform, allowing locals to partake in this transformative initiative. This approach allows anyone to invest in the project and gain from its anticipated success. “This isn’t a donation; it’s your investment in a more creative Memphis,” Reyes emphasizes.

The economic potential of BVO is projected to be substantial, with an estimated generation of $66.2 million and 566 new local jobs. The uptick in employment and activity generated is expected to significantly benefit downtown Memphis’ economy.

A Collaborative Local Effort

Reyes is calling upon local artists, musicians, filmmakers, and creatives to partake in this exciting venture. The project will also host advanced interactive tech under the helm of Kathryn Hicks, an expert in extended reality (XR). “For me, this is a dream project,” Hicks shared. “We’re set to create genuine, immersive interactions, showcasing Memphis’s creativity and innovation on a global standard.”

A Family-Friendly Destination

As a father, Reyes is driven to create a family-friendly site where his daughters and other children can enjoy an exceptional experience without venturing too far from their home city. “I want my daughters to enjoy this kind of experience within Memphis itself, and not have to drive five hours away for it,” he said.

Get Involved in Baron Von Opperbean’s Adventure

The project offers several possibilities for those interested in participating, from investing, contributing materials, or volunteering time, the community’s support is imperative in bringing BVO to life.
