On the evening of December 3, 2024, Memphis police received reports of two separate incidents that unfolded in close succession. The first call came in at 6:19 p.m. regarding an attempted robbery at a local Burger King on Poplar Avenue. Officers arrived on the scene to hear a harrowing tale from the employees. According to their accounts, a man walked into the restaurant, casually pretending to be just another hungry customer. He even placed an order and paid for it!
However, as the cash register opened to process the order, things took a terrifying turn. The suspect pulled out a black handgun from his waistband, demanding money from the bewildered cashier. Thankfully, the quick-thinking employee managed to close the register just in time, preventing the suspect from making off with any cash. But the situation escalated quickly when the suspect violently struck the employee in the face with his weapon before fleeing the scene on foot.
But that wasn’t the end of it. Just a little while later, the police responded to another robbery call, this time from a Family Dollar store on Thomas Street. Just like before, the suspect came in posing as a loyal customer, made a small purchase, and waited for the cash register to pop open. As soon as that drawer flew open, he whipped out his black handgun and ordered the employees to hand over the cash.
With money in hand, the suspect didn’t stick around—it’s reported that he hurried off on foot, heading westbound on Chelsea Avenue. Just like that, two businesses fell victim to what can only be described as sheer audacity!
So who is this dangerous individual? According to the Memphis Police Department, the suspect is described as:
Authorities have confirmed that he is armed and considered dangerous. It’s a reminder for everyone to stay vigilant and keep an eye out for suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
This alarming pattern of crime is prompting community members to voice their concerns about safety. Local business owners are particularly on edge, worried about the potential impact on their livelihood as they try to serve their customers amid an air of uncertainty.
If you have any information about these incidents or think you may have seen something suspicious, police are urging you to come forward. You can call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH to report any details that might help in tracking down this bold bandit. The Memphis community is strong, and together, we can help ensure that our streets remain safe.
As the investigation continues, let’s all keep an eye out and look out for one another. Stay safe, Memphis!
