Memphis Celebrates Local Pride on Small Business Saturday

Memphis Comes Alive for Small Business Saturday!

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — This past weekend, the vibrant city of Memphis was buzzing with excitement as residents took part in the highly anticipated Small Business Saturday. This charming event is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging folks to shop locally during the busy holiday season. Over the years, this initiative has gained momentum as a fun and effective way to support our local economy and help small businesses thrive.

Local Shopping Takes Center Stage

Cassandra Fawn, one enthusiastic local, spent her Saturday hopping between small businesses throughout the city. With a smile on her face, she stressed the significance of showing love to the shops right in her neighborhood. “Today we’ve hit up this part of town,” Fawn cheerfully stated. “We hit up Broad earlier, and we stopped by RP Tracks to get something to eat. It’s all part of celebrating Small Business Saturday!”

Launched by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday has made a remarkable impact over the years. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, this effort has raked in more than $201 billion for local economies nationwide since its inception. Talk about a win-win situation!

Community Spirit Shines Bright

Fawn’s enthusiasm was echoed by fellow shopper Nina Myers, who also feels passionately about supporting local makers. “I’m really just personally looking for things that say Memphis, and you can only find those at the small businesses,” Myers said, highlighting that unique finds often await in locally-owned shops.

Meanwhile, small business owners in Memphis are feeling the love, too! Travis Brady, the proud owner of Dvour Desserts, located on South Main, spoke about the unique experiences his dessert shop offers to the community. “I talked to a lady the other day who said, ‘Every time I’m having a bad day, I come in here, and you guys help us. You help me.’ That’s just what small businesses do. It’s passionate people doing what they love,” Brady shared with pride. Sounds like a sweet spot to be, doesn’t it?

Support That Warms the Heart

The chilly weather did nothing to deter Memphians from their mission to uplift local businesses. “My partner and I feel the need to do our part to sort of keep everything running at least as best as we can contribute to it,” Fawn noted. Her dedication, along with many others, showcases how shopping small is an act of community spirit and solidarity.

Shopping Small: A Step Towards Recovery

As the holiday season unfolds, residents are reminded of the critical role they play in sustaining the local economy. With the implications of the pandemic still lingering, now more than ever, supporting small businesses is crucial. Each small purchase contributes to making Memphis an even more vibrant and thriving city.

So whether it’s finding that perfect unique gift or simply treating yourself to something special, there are countless reasons to shop small. Here’s to hoping the spirit of Small Business Saturday continues to flourish well beyond the holiday season!

At the end of the day, nothing beats that warm feeling of knowing you’re helping keep beautiful Memphis alive and thriving!
