Police have arrested a second suspect, Wardell Thomas, in connection to the crime where a delivery driver’s van was stolen at gunpoint. The investigation revealed prior offenses, and authorities are searching for additional suspects involved in a larger crime ring. While residents are concerned for their safety, they express gratitude for the police’s quick actions in making the arrests.
In a story that has left the community of Memphis buzzing, the police have successfully arrested a second suspect in a carjacking that occurred on Christmas Eve. The incident took place at a CVS Pharmacy located at 2115 Union Avenue when a female delivery driver had her work van, filled with pharmaceuticals worth over $100,000, stolen right from under her nose.
On that chilly morning, around 7 a.m., the delivery driver was approached by two men wearing ski masks who brandished guns. In a flash, they made off with her van, sparking a rapid response from law enforcement. Thanks to quick police work, the first suspect, 27-year-old Javorian Miller, was detained shortly after the crime.
Interestingly, Miller has a history with the law. He was previously involved in another robbery that took place at a Walgreens on November 29, just weeks before the carjacking incident. He now faces serious charges including carjacking, aggravated robbery, and the use of a firearm during a dangerous felony.
After the theft, police officers acted swiftly and soon found the stolen van abandoned not far from the crime scene, at the intersection of Florence and Linden. A further search revealed stolen pharmaceutical totes hidden in the backseat of Miller’s vehicle. This discovery raised eyebrows and led investigators to suspect that this wasn’t an isolated incident.
Fast forward to December 27, and authorities made another arrest: Wardell Thomas. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and, as of December 30, 2024, has been released on a $15,000 bail. The police are busy piecing together the connections between Thomas, Miller, and the overall crime ring that seems to be plaguing the area.
But that’s not all! Investigators have issued warrants for two more suspects: 25-year-old Fredrick Pirtle and 29-year-old Warrant McGowan, both of whom are also facing aggravated robbery charges. McGowan is in deeper trouble, as he faces additional charges for carjacking and having a firearm during a felony.
In an intriguing twist, police confirmed that they observed suspicious activities at a residence linked to the suspects, where it appeared drugs were being unloaded from their vehicle. This revelation has raised questions about the extent of illegal activities occurring in the area and the possible connections among the suspects.
The Memphis community has reacted with a mix of concern and relief. While people are worried about the safety of the area, they are grateful for the hard work of the police in apprehending the suspects so quickly. The holiday spirit took a hit with this shocking crime, but at least there’s assurance that law enforcement is on the case.
As the investigation continues, the feelings of unease linger, making residents more aware of their surroundings. They hope that both the police and the community can work together to prevent such crimes from happening in the future. The story is still unfolding, and it’s clear that this carjacking incident is just one chapter in a larger tale of crime in Midtown Memphis.
