MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mark your calendars, folks! If you’re looking for a vibrant celebration of style and entertainment, Memphis is the place to be this weekend. Local fashion designer Prep Curry is putting on an event that promises to dazzle anyone who attends. With a mission to lift spirits and showcase creativity, Prep’s two-day entertainment extravaganza is not to be missed!
This weekend’s event, titled “When Fashion Meets the Runway,” aims to blend the rich culture of Memphis with the glamour of fashion. According to Prep, “It’s to actually piggyback off of us. We’re about rhythm and blues. Memphis is about dance. Memphis is about culture.” In this exciting affair, attendees can expect a whirlwind of artistic expressions, captivating performances, and unique fashion displays.
For those unfamiliar with Prep Curry, let me fill you in. Eight years ago, this talented designer left his Memphis roots to pursue a career in fashion in Los Angeles. Since then, his unique style, featuring playful floral motifs, has blossomed. Prep reminisces, saying, “I put flowers in all of my clothing, so my brand is just different. It’s to make you feel better about yourself.” His journey took a significant turn when he partnered with Banana Republic, and now he’s using his success to enrich his hometown.
Prep is not just focused on his own brand; he’s dedicated to helping other artists in his community shine too. Expecting hundreds of attendees at the Grind Sound Stage in Orange Mound, he states, “If you don’t look out for your home, you can’t look out for the world.” It’s heartwarming to see such generosity as he offers opportunities to those who may not have them otherwise.
Sunday’s fashion show will spotlight an array of talent with nine designers strutting their stuff. Among them is Memphis music artist BreZay, who is excited to showcase her creative line called “Brezerk.” Emphasizing a blend of influences, BreZay reveals, “It’s going to be some super creative pieces. I did like West Coast, East Coast mixed with South.”
And that’s not all! Memphis Grizzlies’ star center Jaren Jackson Jr. is also getting in on the action with an exclusive collaboration with Prep. Excited about the potential of their joint effort, Prep promises, “I didn’t leave any crumbs on the table.” This collaboration seems to be a game-changer, aiming to elevate the Memphis fashion scene to new heights.
If you’re ready to join in on the fun, the grand finale of “When Fashion Meets the Runway” is taking place this Sunday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 3635 Park Ave.
As a special preview, Prep is also hosting a pop-up shop on Saturday at 12 p.m., complete with a Comedy for Coats show. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a good cause! Bring a slightly used coat to donate to the homeless, and you’ll get a discount on your ticket to the comedy show.
Intrigued? Tickets start at just $32, and you can find more information on how to secure yours. With laughter, fashion, and community spirit at the heart of this event, there’s bound to be something for everyone to enjoy!
So gather your friends, bring your family, and get ready for a weekend where creativity reigns supreme in Memphis!
