Memphis Team Deployed to Help Florida Ahead of Hurricane Milton
Memphis, Tenn. — The community spirit of Memphis shines bright as a local first responder team gears up to support those in need in Florida. With Hurricane Milton anticipated to make landfall this Wednesday, the dedicated crew from Vital Medical Transport has jumped into action to assist with evacuation efforts.
Swift Action Taken
On Sunday, the company dispatched a team of 20 paramedics and EMTs along with over 10 ambulances to St. Petersburg, Florida. According to their Chief Financial Officer, Matt Schipper, this quick response follows their recent deployment to aid victims of Hurricane Helene. “It is very rare to be out and then have to stay out on one hurricane and then get more people to support the next one,” Schipper explained.
Challenges on the Journey
The journey itself was no walk in the park, as the team faced a number of obstacles, including downed trees left in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Despite these challenges, their determination shone through. “It took our crews 12 hours to reach St. Petersburg, but they were committed to making it there safely and quickly,” Schipper stated.
With the welfare of the community in mind, these brave EMTs and paramedics, many of whom are proud Memphians, have answered the call to serve, leaving their homes and families behind for what could be weeks. “We’re very happy that the community has stepped up and they are professional,” Schipper added.
Prepared for the Challenge
Before heading out, the organization made sure that the crews had enough essentials to weather the storm. “They rest when they can rest, and we made sure that when they left here, their ambulances were packed with what they needed for the first 72 hours—food, water, and other necessary items,” Schipper shared. This level of readiness is reassuring, especially as the storm looms closer.
Uncertain Return
As Hurricane Milton approaches, the situation remains fluid. At this time, the team’s return is uncertain, as they will remain in Florida as long as they are needed to assist with emergency situations. “They’re excited to be there to help the people of Florida,” Schipper noted. “I believe they are on missions as we speak right now.”

Once the initial supplies begin to dwindle, the federal government is prepared to step in and provide additional resources to ensure that the Memphis crew can continue their vital work.
