Memphis Man Arrested in Connection to Fatal Shooting of Blac Youngsta’s Brother

Randy Darnell Ewing Jr., suspected of killing the rapper’s brother, was apprehended after an intense foot chase in Memphis

Randy Darnell Ewing Jr. , the man accused of shooting and killing Tomanuel Benson, the brother of Memphis rapper Blac Youngsta, in August, was arrested by U.S. Marshals and Memphis police officers Tuesday night. This information emerged from a press release issued by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Charges against Ewing Jr.

Ewing has been charged with second-degree murder, using a firearm with the intent to commit a felony, and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. It is alleged that the shooting took place following an argument in a Memphis gas station in August.

The Arrest

According to the release, Marshals and the Memphis Police Department’s fugitive team initiated a manhunt for Ewing in the area around Lamar Avenue and Winchester Road. The suspect was spotted walking along Creighton Avenue. The sighting led to a foot chase which ended with a K-9 officer, assigned to the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, subduing Ewing after multiple warnings. Ewing was discovered to be armed with a handgun. After being treated at a local hospital, Ewing was moved to the Shelby County Jail.

Details of the Attack

Information stemming from court records paint a grim picture of the fatal incident. Responding to a shooting call at a BP gas station at 583 South Parkway East, Memphis police found Benson with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The shooting, which left another person injured, was reportedly sparked by a disagreement that escalated violently.

Impact on Blac Youngsta

Following the untimely death of his brother, Blac Youngsta expressed his sorrow on social media. Sadly, this is not the first time that the rapper has had to cope with such a tragedy. His brothers, Ronnie B and HeavyChampTD, were victims of fatal shootings in 2016 and 2019.
