Memphis, Tenn. — In a shocking tale coming out of our beloved Memphis, a mother has found herself facing serious charges after a terrifying encounter with her son. Miriam Castillo, a 44-year-old woman, is now dealing with serious legal troubles after allegedly attempting to push her son from a moving vehicle and even stabbing him with a screwdriver.
On a typical Tuesday afternoon, things took a dark turn when Castillo picked up her son from Hickory Ridge Middle School. According to reports, the young boy found himself in a worrying situation when his mother began driving recklessly, leading to a frightening attempt to push him out of the car.
Police have explained that Castillo was on her way to pick up her daughter from Newberry Elementary when things spiraled out of control. In the midst of the chaos, the boy managed to call his father for help. His dad wisely advised him to take the keys out of the ignition once they came to a stop. Unfortunately, the mother was not going to let him do that easily. She reportedly bit him on his hand and arm and, in a shocking moment, stabbed him in the leg with a screwdriver.
Witnesses describe a scene filled with fear and urgency as Castillo allegedly leapt from her car and started chasing her son around the vehicle. One woman, clearly moved by the distressing sight, heard the boy screaming, “She is trying to kill me!” and jumped in to assist him. It’s heartwarming to see how a community can rally together in such dire moments.
When police arrived at the scene, they noted that Castillo smelled strongly of alcohol. In fact, Castillo admitted to having been drinking, which may explain her erratic behavior. Unfortunately, due to her state, officers were unable to obtain a clear statement from her regarding the event.
The brave young victim was treated for his minor injuries right at the scene before being released to his father, who had been on the phone with him during the terrifying event. It must have been an incredibly frightening ordeal for both the child and his family.
As for Castillo, she has been charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect, alongside domestic assault. She is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail with a bond set at an imposing $40,000. Her arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, where more details will likely emerge regarding her situation and state of mind during the incident.
This incident serves as a reminder of the issues some families face and the importance of community awareness and intervention. It’s a heart-wrenching situation that has left many in Fletcher feeling a blend of shock and concern. As we wait for more updates, our thoughts go out to the young victim and his family as they navigate through this trauma. Let’s hope for strength and healing for everyone involved.
Stay safe out there, Memphis, and remember to always look out for one another. If you see someone in distress, don’t hesitate to step in—sometimes a little help can make all the difference!
