Well, folks, it’s been quite a weekend here in Memphis, where the atmosphere has been a mix of sunshine, freezing temperatures, and some not-so-great news coming from our local police department. With the weather reaching a high of 48 degrees and dipping down to a chilly 25 degrees, it’s safe to say many of us have been bundled up and keeping warm.
Let’s dive right in. On Saturday morning, around 8:00 a.m., the Memphis Police Department (MPD) received a call about a robbery at the Exxon gas station located at 2666 Watkins Street. According to reports, a man was just pumping gas when a suspect approached him with a gun, demanding his belongings. That’s right; this is the stuff that leaves you shaking your head in disbelief.
The police have shared some details from Exxon’s surveillance footage. They’ve described a red Chevrolet Malibu pulling into the gas station and parking in front of a pump. The footage shows a man stepping out of the driver’s side, dressed in a black and red sweater, black pants, red and white shoes, and topped off with a red hat. You could say the fashion choices scream “stand out,” but not in a good way considering the circumstances!
As of now, law enforcement has made no arrests in connection with this daring robbery. If anyone has information on this incident or might recognize that flashy red car, they’re encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH. Every little bit of information could help make our community safer.
Closer to home, the police are also busy tackling other incidents, with reports of a shooting in a neighborhood in Hickory Hill. It’s clear that while the sun shines bright, shadows of violence and grief still linger nearby.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom in the Bluff City. While the cold air rolls in, Memphis Parks has kicked off its Winter Break Camp registration this week! Whether your kids need something fun to do while on holiday break or you just want to keep them busy, this could be a great option. Who doesn’t love some fun in the winter vibes?
And let’s not forget the amazing local non-profit groups that are stepping up to help combat homelessness and support those less fortunate as we head into the holiday season. Their dedication is a heartwarming reminder that many Memphians are working hard to lift others up.
As we navigate through the ups and downs of life in Memphis, let’s remember the importance of community, safety, and kindness toward each other. While the cold might have many of us huddling inside, we can still spread warmth through our actions and support for those in need. Stay safe, Memphis, and let’s look out for one another!
