Memphis Community Stunned After Dramatic Shooting and Escape on Garbage Truck

Memphis Shaken by Shocking Shooting Incident

In a startling turn of events, the city of Memphis encountered a chaotic scene on September 3, when a man fighting for his life made a dramatic escape by leaping onto a city garbage truck amid a hail of gunfire. The police have since arrested two men believed to be involved in the incident, which has left the community alarmed and seeking answers.

What Happened That Day?

According to Memphis Police, officers responded to reports of an aggravated assault on Isabelle Street, where they found an injured man. The victim had sustained numerous gunshot wounds and was rushed to Regional One Hospital in a critical condition. Witnesses described a fear-inducing chase as the victim was pursued by an armed individual.

After hearing shots fired, a bystander recounted how he saw the victim flee, desperately jumping onto the side of a garbage truck in a bid to escape the attacking gunman. As the truck drove away, shots continued to ring out, striking the vehicle multiple times. Unfortunately, another car parked nearby was also caught in the crossfire.

The Aftermath and Investigation

Following the frightening encounter, investigators spoke with the victim in the hospital. He shared his harrowing experience, detailing that he had met up with Cameron Kelley, aged 18, in the 1000 block of Isabelle. The victim claimed that Kelley was armed and, without warning, shot him before initiating a chase.

In a twist that sounds like something straight out of an action movie, the victim managed to hop onto the garbage truck as Kelley continued firing at him. The situation was further complicated when Kelley reportedly fled the scene in a blue Nissan Altima, which belonged to his friend, Treyvion Short.

Turning The Tables

Investigators were later tipped off by the Tillman Precinct that Kelley wanted to turn himself in. During the questioning, he admitted to chasing the victim and firing shots. Short corroborated the sequence of events, confessing to have picked up Kelley post-shooting and drove him away from the scene.

Arrests Made

On a recent Friday, both Kelley and Short were arrested and now face a host of serious charges. Kelley is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment (four counts), two counts of vandalism related to property damage, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. He is currently held on a bond of $150,000.

Meanwhile, Short faces similar charges, including attempted first-degree murder and employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, with a lower bond of $85,000. The shocking nature of these events has sent ripples through the Memphis community, leaving a lot of residents stunned.

A Community in Shock

As details continue to emerge, many in Memphis are left wondering how a seemingly ordinary day could escalate into such a dangerous situation. The bravery of the garbage truck workers, who inadvertently became part of this drama, does not go unnoticed. Their quick actions provided a lifeline for the victim during a harrowing experience.

The community now awaits further developments as the legal process unfolds, but this incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of everyday life in the city. As the investigations proceed and the boys face their day in court, folks in Memphis are surely hoping for peace and safety to return to their neighborhoods.
