Memphis Teen Arrested Following Wild Carjacking Incident

In a jaw-dropping turn of events late last week, a 17-year-old boy from Memphis found himself behind bars after being involved in a shocking armed carjacking that left a victim injured and a police officer hurt during a dramatic chase. The incident, which unfolded in the Oakhaven neighborhood, has gripped the local community with its chilling details.

What Happened That Night?

It all started on February 8, 2025, just past 11 PM when a woman was approached by a boy she recognized. He asked for a ride, which appeared harmless at first. However, things took a dangerous turn. As she arrived at the designated spot in the 1600 block of Raines Road, the boy, along with three masked accomplices, jumped into her vehicle. These individuals were clad in black ski masks and dark clothing, and they were all armed with guns.

The poor woman was forced to drive them around to various locations. It’s hard to imagine the fear she must have felt. Eventually, the boy she knew ordered her to take the remaining three back to Raines Road. Once they reached their drop-off point, things got ugly. The trio assaulted her and made off with her 2012 Nissan Maxima, leaving her shaken and injured.

Swooping In – The Police Chase

Fast forward to the early hours of February 9, 2025. At approximately 4:30 AM, police spotted the stolen Nissan parked at a gas station on Winchester Road. Inside were three individuals. When the police approached, the suspects didn’t stick around. They attempted to flee in the stolen vehicle, prompting a fast-paced police chase.

The thrilling pursuit ended when the suspects made a sudden stop at the Winchester Grove Apartments. In a brazen twist, one of the officer’s patrol vehicles collided with the stolen car during this chaotic chase. Unfortunately, this crash caused injuries to one of the officers, although details regarding their condition remain under wraps.

Apprehension and Charges

The suspects didn’t get far. They abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. However, quick work by the police led to the arrest of the 17-year-old driver shortly after. In a troubling discovery, he was found in possession of a handgun. This has certainly added more weight to the evening’s events.

This young suspect now faces a laundry list of serious charges, including:

  • Carjacking
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony
  • Aggravated assault (acting in concert)
  • Intentionally evading arrest in an automobile
  • Disregarding a traffic signal
  • Reckless driving
  • Assault on a first responder
  • Evading arrest on foot
  • No driver’s license
  • Handgun possession prohibited

As for the other suspects involved in this alarming incident, they remain at large and have yet to be identified or apprehended.

Victim’s Condition

The victim was taken to Methodist South Hospital where she received treatment for injuries described as non-critical. While any injury is serious and causes distress, it’s a relief to hear that they aren’t life-threatening.

As this story continues to unfold, both the community and law enforcement are hoping to bring to justice not just the teen who has been arrested, but also the other suspects involved in this harrowing carjacking. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation!
