Memphis police dealt with multiple vehicle theft incidents over the weekend, including a dramatic chase in South Memphis where suspects crashed a stolen vehicle and fired shots at the victim. A second incident in Whitehaven involved a stolen car escape that ended in a collision. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported in either case as police remain vigilant against crime in the city.
In a shocking turn of events over the weekend, Memphis police found themselves in a frenzy after a surprising vehicle theft incident unfolded in South Memphis. It all started on a Saturday evening, around 7:40 p.m., when a victim decided to take matters into their own hands and track down their stolen car. This was a story that turned out to be more than they bargained for!
Imagine the scene: East McLemore Avenue and Shady Lane became the stage for an unexpected drama. As the victim tracked their stolen vehicle, the suspects, driving the car like they were in a high-speed chase movie, crashed the vehicle into a pole. The sound of metal crunching would have made anyone wince!
However, the real twist came after the crash. In what can only be described as a wild reaction, the suspects jumped out of the wrecked vehicle and turned their sights toward the victim, firing shots in their direction. Thankfully, the shooting didn’t lead to any injuries, which is a small miracle considering the intensity of the situation.
After the chaos, Memphis Light, Gas, and Water (MLGW) had to step in to repair the damage done to the pole. They certainly had their hands full with this mess!

Just after noon, the police were alerted to a stolen vehicle near the South Plaza Shopping Center. It’s as if the thieves decided to have their own little joyride!
Upon arriving at the scene, police spotted the stolen vehicle trying to escape. In a dramatic turn of events, the stolen car collided with another vehicle before the suspects can you believe it? – abandoned their getaway ride and took off on foot! Real-life drama was playing out right before everyone’s eyes.
Police officers quickly sprang into action. Two suspects were swiftly apprehended while attempting to flee. Some may say they didn’t have a getaway plan! To make matters even more exciting, a K9 unit was called to track down a third suspect, who thought they could slip through the cracks. But the pooches know how to sniff out trouble!
While fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported in this incident either, one of the suspects did manage to sustain an injury while trying to escape. They were subsequently taken to Regional One for treatment, perhaps realizing that crime doesn’t pay!
The incidents in South Memphis and Whitehaven serve as reminders that while crime may try to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of Memphis, the city’s police force is always watching and ready to act. With investigations underway and suspects already caught, it’s clear Memphis is not just standing by but vigorously taking steps to keep its streets safe.
