Sponsor Our ArticlesMemphis has been shaken by a series of violent incidents, including gas station shootings and car fires. The Memphis Police Department is investigating these alarming events, which have left residents on edge. As community safety becomes a concern, local law enforcement urges anyone with information to step forward and assist in maintaining a secure environment for all.
Memphis is facing a wave of violence that has left residents on edge as the Memphis Police Department (MPD) investigates a series of alarming incidents. Just before 5 a.m. on January 9, 2025, a car fire erupted at a BP gas station located at 4305 Holmes Road in southeast Memphis, close to the Mississippi state line. When authorities arrived, they found a vehicle that had been left charred and smoldering in the parking lot. Thankfully, at this time, it’s unclear if anyone was injured during this incident.
Meanwhile, another scene of chaos unfolded yesterday at the Marathon gas station situated at 2306 Lamar Avenue near Airways Boulevard. Two separate shootings occurred in a short span of time, setting off alarm bells across the neighborhood.
The first shooting took place around 4:14 p.m., involving a 16-year-old boy. Luck was on his side as he was promptly taken to the hospital by his mother, where medical staff assessed his injuries to be non-critical. However, the *suspect in this incident managed to flee the scene*, and MPD is now reviewing surveillance footage to identify the individual, who was seen wearing a white hoodie and blue jeans.
Just 30 minutes after the initial gunfire, another alarming event transpired around 4:50 p.m. An aggravated assault erupted involving a silver Mazda and a black Nissan. During this confrontation, an armed individual began firing shots at the Mazda while the victims made a hasty escape on foot. The frightened victims abandoned their car at the intersection of Lamar Avenue and South Parkway and ran toward nearby businesses in a bid to reach safety.
Later that evening, at around 8:30 p.m., the Marathon gas station became the scene of yet another distressing event. A man suffering from critical injuries appeared at the gas station seeking assistance after being shot at a location that has yet to be disclosed. His condition is serious, and the police are currently piecing together the events from the day, trying to determine if these incidents are connected.
The string of violent occurrences has understandably left the local community shaken. Many residents are now feeling an increased sense of unease as they navigate their day-to-day activities. The MPD is actively urging anyone who may have information regarding these incidents to step forward.
Memphians are urged to come together during these troubling times and to look out for one another. Local law enforcement is emphasizing the importance of community involvement for keeping neighborhoods safe. Residents are encouraged to reach out to CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH if they can share any details related to the shootings or the car fire.
The string of violent incidents serves as a sobering reminder that safety is a shared responsibility. As the MPD continues its investigations, the hope is that justice will be served swiftly and that the community can ease back into a sense of normalcy.
For now, Memphis watches closely as the situation develops, hoping for answers and a return to peace. Let’s all do our part to keep our streets safe and protect our neighborhoods from further violence.
