Memphis Woman Robbed at Gunpoint Outside Workplace, Suspect Arrested

In a shocking incident that rattled a local community, a woman in Memphis found herself at the center of a terrifying robbery when she was held at gunpoint right outside her workplace. Tania Garcia was just doing her job at Santes Services and Positive Staffing, located on Winchester Road in Parkway Village, when things took a dangerous turn.

It all began on a regular Thursday afternoon while Garcia was working alone. Suddenly, she heard the alarming sound of her car alarm blaring from outside. Concerned, she stepped out of the business to investigate, only to find a man inside her vehicle—a brand-new 2022 Nissan Altima.

The suspect, later identified as Ladarrius Perry, didn’t waste any time. He threatened Garcia with a gun, commanding her to stay back or face dire consequences. The terrifying standoff ended when Perry made off with Garcia’s car, leaving her shaken and distraught.

Right after the incident, Garcia made the smart decision to call the police from her office. Officers sprung into action, quickly beginning their search for the stolen vehicle.

About an hour later, in a stroke of luck, the police located Garcia’s Nissan about 10 miles away on Brightside in South Memphis. However, police found Perry in an even more precarious situation—he was spotted wiping down the car’s door handle, perhaps hoping to erase any fingerprints. When police arrived, Perry attempted to flee.

In the chaos, he dropped a bag that contained a Glock firearm and a vehicle programmer. Despite the overwhelming evidence, Perry was adamant about his innocence, claiming that the car had been “key padded.” When asked how he obtained the vehicle, he simply stated, “I got the car.”

This alarming event has undoubtedly left Garcia feeling vulnerable. She expressed relief at Perry’s arrest, but there’s a common sentiment in the community that personal safety has become a pressing concern. According to reports, the area has seen a sharp rise in crime, with at least 85 reported crimes within a half-mile radius of the business over the last two months. This includes 20 car thefts, nine robberies, eight burglaries, and 13 assaults.

The spike in criminal activity has left many residents, including Garcia, questioning their safety. Garcia works alone and hinted that she may no longer feel comfortable returning to her job following this harrowing experience.

At the time of Perry’s arrest, he was not alone. Police took two women and a man into custody, although the reasons for their detention remain unclear and no charges have yet been filed against them. One of the detained women, who claimed to be Perry’s cousin, shared that he had asked her for a change of clothes while he was attempting to evade law enforcement.

Perry now faces serious charges, including aggravated robbery and evading arrest. His court appearance is set for the upcoming Monday, which leaves many in the community on edge, hoping that justice will be served swiftly to restore a sense of security to individuals like Tania Garcia and the surrounding area.

Memphis locals continue to discuss the rising crime rates and express their hopes for better protection and police presence in their neighborhoods. The fear of becoming victims themselves is palpable, and conversations about safety and crime prevention are becoming ever more crucial.
