Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. Expands to Memphis with New Office and Experienced Leadership Team

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. Opens First Office in Memphis

In an exciting new development for Memphis, Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. is setting up shop in the city, marking its first office here. The New York-based investment banking and wealth management firm is making significant strides in the local financial landscape by hiring two seasoned local executives to lead the way.

A Veteran Team to Build Oppenheimer’s Presence

The firm has welcomed Alan Richmond and Clayton Ellis, both of whom have extensive experience in financial advisory. Richmond will take on the role of executive director of investments, while Ellis will be the director of investments. Their combined backgrounds and expertise will be pivotal for Oppenheimer as it aims to establish a strong foothold in Memphis.

Richmond comes to Oppenheimer with nearly 16 years of experience from B. Riley Wealth Management, where he honed his skills in investment strategies and client relations. Meanwhile, Ellis brings a diverse range of expertise from his time at B. Riley, as well as his past roles at FHN Financial and Carty & Co. Inc.. With Richmond’s contract and Ellis’s experience, the duo seems well-equipped to enhance Oppenheimer’s operations in the city.

The New Office Location

Oppenheimer has chosen a prime location for its Memphis office, situated in The Colonnade building at 1661 International Drive, Suite 400. This area is well known for its thriving business environment, making it an ideal spot for growth in the financial sector.

The company entered the Tennessee market just last year in 2022 and already employs 10 talented individuals across the state, with eight based in Nashville. However, this new office signifies a commitment to expanding Oppenheimer’s reach into Memphis. A spokesperson for the firm mentioned that they “look to add more professionals throughout the state over the next 12 months,” signaling a growing opportunity for financial experts in the region.

Leadership and Future Goals

Overseeing the Memphis and Nashville offices is Phil Hall, the executive director, who previously served as B. Riley’s regional manager for the Mid-South region. Hall expressed enthusiasm about bringing Richmond and Ellis on board, insisting their “skills and robust advisory practice will prove essential to enhancing Oppenheimer’s presence in Memphis.” This statement highlights the strategic importance of local knowledge and expertise in building the firm’s reputation in the area.

Community Engagement and Future Events

For those interested in engaging more deeply with the business community, Oppenheimer’s entry into Memphis opens doors not only for investment and financial services but also for networking and collaboration. Local brokers and business leaders are encouraged to participate in upcoming events aimed at promoting the prosperity of Memphis. With several events planned, there’s a great opportunity to learn how to contribute positively to the city’s economic growth.

Bottom Line

The arrival of Oppenheimer & Co. in Memphis marks a bright juncture for the local economy. With experienced leaders at the helm and an eye on growth, this new venture is set to create a thriving environment for both the firm and the city alike. As they build their team and services, Memphis residents can look forward to more options in investment and wealth management right in their backyard.
