Bringing Hope Back to Memphis
In an unveiling event punctuated by inspiring speeches and heartwarming applause, the Brenda Rogers Parent Resource center reopened its doors. The Center had ceased operations in the past due to lack of funding. However, this well-loved facility was revived due to the generosity of several donors, including a life-changing grant of $1.5 million from Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, issued in 2022.
Transforming Community with Enhanced Facilities
The grand reopening event saw a significant transformation in the Center’s facilities. Adding a generous 3,200 square feet to its former structure, the new building now has enhanced provisions to assist families in the community. The presence of Memphis Mayor Paul Young further elevated the occasion.
As reiterated by Mayor Young on stage, the revamped Brenda Rogers Parent Resource center is much more than just a building with new amenities. “Many people in our city are looking for solutions to some of the negative happenings. This center is part of the answer.”
New Services Empowering Families
The center, managed by Memphis Lift, now has a food pantry, uniform wardrobe and an event area meant for recreational activities. “This is historic in this community”, said Memphis Lift’s Executive Director Sarah Carpenter, who was also present at the event. Carpenter is certain that the Center’s food pantry and uniform wardrobe will greatly aid struggling families in the community.
