School Holidays Approaching for Students in the Memphis Area

School Holidays Ahead for Memphis Area Students

Hey there, Memphis! Can you believe it? School has been in session for almost a month now, and the hustle and bustle of fall is fully upon us. With the Labor Day holiday tucked away, students everywhere are likely wondering what other breaks are coming up this semester. Good news: there’s plenty to look forward to!

Upcoming National Holidays

This semester, students in the Memphis area can get excited about four national holidays that will surely give them a break from the books. Of course, don’t forget about those teacher in-service days tucked into the calendar, which can provide additional time off. Always best to keep an eye on the school calendar to catch those days!

Let’s dive into when schools in the Memphis area will ring those bells for upcoming holidays this semester. If you’re part of Collierville Schools, DeSoto County Schools, Memphis-Shelby County Schools, or Millington Municipal Schools, mark your calendar! These schools will kick off their first fall break from October 7 through October 11. What a great way to recharge before diving deeper into the curriculum!

Fall Break Details

If you attend Arlington Community Schools, Bartlett City Schools, Germantown Municipal Schools, or Lakeland Schools, get ready for a fall break from October 14 to October 18. It’s a fantastic chance to hang out with friends, spend time with family, or catch up on some much-needed z’s!

Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Break

As we move toward November, students should circle November 11 on their calendars for Veterans Day. Most schools in the Memphis area will take a day off to honor those who have served, but Collierville, DeSoto, and Germantown will be in session that day—so plan accordingly!

Then comes one of the most cherished breaks of the year: Thanksgiving! Students in Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, DeSoto, Germantown, Lakeland, and Memphis will have a break from November 25 through November 29. Meanwhile, Millington schools will also celebrate Thanksgiving but will have their break a day shorter, from November 26 to November 29. Time to feast on turkey and pie!

Christmas Cheer and More

As the holidays draw closer, Christmas break is set to start for all schools on December 23, with students returning to class on January 6 for MSCS and Millington schools, while the rest will head back on January 7. This is a wonderful time to spend with family, swap gifts, and kick back with holiday movies.

Don’t forget about Martin Luther King Jr. Day! All schools will be closed on January 20 to honor his legacy. Following that, students can look forward to Presidents’ Day on February 17, a day off again across all schools.

Spring Break Excitement

Before we know it, spring will be here, and that brings spring break! DeSoto and Memphis students will hit the pause button from March 10 to March 14, while students in Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, and Millington will enjoy their spring break from March 17 to March 21. A great time to enjoy the emerging sunshine and plan some fun outings!

Wrapping Up the Year

After all those fun-filled breaks, the school year will wrap up just before Memorial Day. Germantown Schools will have their last day on May 21, while Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, and Lakeland will end their school year on May 22, followed by DeSoto, Memphis, and Millington’s last day on May 23.

So that’s the scoop on the school holidays coming up for our Memphis area students! Be sure to enjoy every last moment of those breaks and make some awesome memories along the way!
