Community Safety Meeting
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It was an unsettling day in the Binghampton neighborhood as police responded to a shocking incident that left local residents in disbelief. On Tuesday, security guards working at The Red Oaks Apartments were targeted in a bold drive-by shooting, which reportedly involved a staggering **105 bullets** fired at them.
According to the information released by authorities, the chaos erupted when two security guards noticed a gold Buick SUV circling the apartment complex. In what can only be described as a terrifying moment, the occupants of the SUV opened fire on the guards, who immediately alerted the police. Fortunately, the guards were unharmed.
Following the alarming shooting, police quickly mobilized and located the SUV just a short distance away on Scott Street and Broad Avenue. The vehicle was stopped, and as the officers approached, two of the suspects bolted from the SUV and fled on foot, while a third individual remained inside the vehicle. Officers swiftly apprehended the one who stayed behind and began a search of the area.
Upon investigating the abandoned SUV, police discovered **three firearms** along with a sizable amount of marijuana. They also retrieved **105 shell casings** from the scene, which indicates just how serious the situation was. Video footage captured the terrifying moment as the assailants fired at the security guards, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
After piecing together the evidence, police arrested three men: **Matthew White**, **Johnny Rias**, and **Thomas Mayo**. All three are facing serious charges, including **two counts of aggravated assault**, **possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony**, and **possession of marijuana**. As of now, they are being held at the Shelby County Jail, with their court date scheduled for Thursday.
The shooting has stirred up significant concern among local residents. Many are left wondering what measures can be implemented to ensure their safety moving forward. Neighbors expressed their shock and disbelief, with one resident stating, “It’s crazy that this kind of violence could happen right outside my home.” Community members have been reflecting on their surroundings, with many calling for increased security measures in the area.
It’s understandable why residents are feeling on edge after such an incident. Drive-by shootings are startlingly dangerous and can escalate quickly. With more eyes watching, hopefully, the local community will come together to address these safety concerns and collaborate with law enforcement to prevent further violence.
This unfortunate event has highlighted the urgency for action and discussions about safety in the neighborhood. As the investigation continues and the court proceedings unfold, many hope that this incident will lead to increased awareness and a focus on crime prevention strategies to protect the community.
Residents will surely be watching closely to see how the situation develops and what steps will be taken by law enforcement to maintain peace and safety for everyone in Memphis.
