Memphis, Tenn. – We all have our travel plans, but it’s safe to say that not everyone has weed-filled luggage as part of their itinerary! On a bright and pleasant day, just a week ago, a Memphis man found himself at the center of a *bizarre airport incident* after police discovered nearly 60 pounds of marijuana tucked away in his bags at the Memphis International Airport.
On November 15, an officer from the Memphis Airport Police Department and a keen K-9 were conducting routine inspections of luggage at the airport when they stumbled upon two large green hardshell suitcases. Just as the duo began their search, the dog gave a positive alert on those specific bags, which immediately raised the officer’s suspicions. So, what’s a cop to do? The officer put the bag back on the baggage claim belt and patiently waited.
Imagine the scene! After a few moments, a 29-year-old man named Aisaih Alexander picked up the bags. When approached by the police, he responded with an *innocent grin*, claiming he had “no idea” why the dog was barking up the wrong tree and insisted that he didn’t even know what was packed inside. Hmm, suspicious much?
It didn’t take long for the officers to uncover the truth. When they opened the bags, they discovered 50 clear, vacuum-sealed plastic bags, all containing a total of 58.7 pounds of marijuana. That’s a lot of leafy green goodness! Alexander was promptly taken into custody and charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell. Talk about a bushel of trouble!
As the sun set on that otherwise *luminous day*, with temperatures dipping around 43°F, it was certainly a chilly night for Alexander—and not just because of the weather! With high winds blowing from the WSW at 5 to 10 mph, one can imagine the gusts swirling around him as he faced law enforcement.
In the meantime, Memphis has been busy with a number of local stories making headlines. From community tributes to beloved coaches to tragic accidents, the heart of the city continues to pulse with various emotions.
Though Alexander’s story may raise eyebrows, other recent news has hit home harder. A tragic incident earlier this week claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman after gunfire led to a crash in Whitehaven. Additionally, a historic South Memphis church faced destruction in a recent fire, further galvanizing the community in a time of need.
And in case you missed it, Mayor Paul Young has introduced a new public safety plan, reminding residents that “we still have a lot of work to do.” The blend of positive and negative news seems to keep the community engaged and aware of the myriad challenges faced daily.
As we gear up for the holiday season, the pursuit of peace and safety remains a priority for locals. But for Aisaih Alexander, it seems his holiday spirit is going to look a little different this year—unless he can work out a bit of legal magic with his case!
So, if you’re traveling through Memphis or just enjoying the lovely weather, keep your bags packed with only the essentials. Remember, you never know who’s watching at the airport!
