Memphis Prepares for Veterans Day Celebrations: Essential Closure Information and Community Events

Memphis Gears Up for Veterans Day: Here’s What You Need to Know!

As we honor and celebrate our brave veterans this coming Monday, November 11th, Memphis is buzzing with preparations for the holiday. Veterans Day is a special occasion, and many people are looking forward to recognizing the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces. However, amidst the celebrations, it’s essential to note that certain services and offices will be closed, giving everyone a heads-up to plan accordingly!

What’s Closed in Memphis on Veterans Day?

If you have errands to run or appointments lined up, make sure to check this list before heading out. Several key offices and services will be closed across Memphis on Veterans Day:

  • City of Memphis Offices: All City of Memphis government offices will close their doors on Monday. So, if your regular trash pickup day is also on Monday, mark your calendars! Garbage collection will shift to Tuesday instead. If you’re serviced by Team Waste, don’t worry—your trash will be collected as usual.
  • Shelby County Health Department: Keeping our community healthy is vital, but the Shelby County Health Department won’t be open on Veterans Day.
  • Public Libraries: Yes, folks! All Memphis Public Libraries will be closed, so make sure to stock up on those books beforehand!
  • MLGW (Memphis Light, Gas and Water): MLGW’s business offices will take the day off as well. But no worries—you can still manage your account online through MLGW’s My Account portal. Check balances, set up payment plans, and keep an eye on outage updates without leaving the comfort of your home.
  • Post Offices: If you had mail to send, make a note that all Post Offices will be closed on Veterans Day. This means no mail delivery and no access to Post Office Box services.
  • Banks: Banks such as Bank of America, Truist, and Wells Fargo will also be closed. If you need to do any banking, be sure to plan ahead!

What’s Open?

While many places will be closed, you’ll still find numerous restaurants, grocery stores, and retail shops open and ready to serve you. Whether you’re grabbing a bite to eat, picking up last-minute groceries, or just treating yourself to a little retail therapy, there are plenty of options to enjoy.

Why We Celebrate Veterans Day

Veterans Day is all about honoring the heroes who have fought for our freedom and safety. It’s a chance to express gratitude to those who have served in the military, and it’s often celebrated with various events, parades, and ceremonies. Communities across the nation share their appreciation in different ways, and Memphis is no exception!

Many people take this day to reflect on the resilience and courage displayed by our veterans. Local organizations may even have events lined up, so be sure to keep an eye out for activities in your area.

Final Thoughts

As we approach Veterans Day, let’s remember to show our appreciation for those who have served. Whether you participate in a local event or take a moment of silence, it’s the perfect occasion to honor the sacrifices made by veterans. And if you have any plans on the 11th, just remember that some places will be closed. Make sure to plan ahead so you can make the most out of this meaningful day!

From all of us, here’s to our wonderful veterans—thank you for your service!
