MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In an exciting development for the local education community, the West Memphis School District recently announced the appointment of their new superintendent, Eric Foister. This announcement, made public on Thursday evening, has sparked enthusiasm among teachers, parents, and students alike.
Eric Foister is no stranger to education. For the past three years, he has served as the assistant superintendent of the Wynne School District, where he made a significant impact on both faculty and students. His academic journey is also impressive. Foister earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ball State University, followed by a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Oakland City University. He further elevated his credentials by attaining an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Austin Peay State University.
Foister’s dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. He has received several accolades throughout his career, including Teacher of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Coach of the Year. His previous experience also includes being part of the administrative team in Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools, which was recognized as one of the highest performing districts in Tennessee during his tenure.
Foister is set to officially begin his role as superintendent on December 2. He succeeds Dr. Terrence Brown, who tragically passed away on May 24. Since that time, Assistant Superintendent Willie Harris has stepped in as interim superintendent, providing stability and guidance during a challenging period for the district.
In expressing his excitement to join the West Memphis School District, Foister stated, “I am thrilled to take on this new role and collaborate with the talented staff and vibrant community. Together, we can continue to foster a nurturing environment for our students to excel.”
Dr. Kimberly Wolfe, the Board President for West Memphis Schools, shared her thoughts as well. “I look forward to working with Mr. Foister as the Board of Directors remains focused on the five priority areas outlined in the District’s community-informed strategic plan. This plan was spearheaded by our previous superintendent, Dr. Terrence A. Brown, who left a strong legacy that we will build on for years to come.”
Wolfe also emphasized the importance of the transitional support from Interim Superintendent Willie Harris. “Mr. Harris has provided excellent leadership during a critical time, and we are confident that Mr. Foister will inherit invaluable support as he steps into his new role.”
The West Memphis School District community is already buzzing with energy and anticipation for what lies ahead. With Foister’s extensive background in education and proven leadership ability, many are hopeful that enhancements and innovations in education will take center stage under his guidance.
Families, teachers, and students can look forward to a renewed focus on academic excellence, community involvement, and student support as the district moves forward. It’s clear that the collaboration between the new superintendent and the staff will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of West Memphis Schools.
As the new academic year unfolds, the community is excited to see how Foister’s leadership will pave the way for progress and continued success in the West Memphis educational landscape. With a strong commitment to quality education, the district is definitely on a promising path ahead!
